A Personal & Continuing Story on Deportation…

No Paperwork Needed

Chapter 4 – Incarcerated

By Sue Thomson

I felt like a widow,

but unlike a widow,

we can talk sometimes twice a day

The cost to me is a dollar a minute.

I am thankful for these short, but expensive calls…

It has been a week now since they took him from me…

From us…

He knows men who have been in jail,

fighting for their freedom for almost a year…

But there is doubt of any successes thus far…

Just the sound of the cell doors closing…

An echo that haunts their fading dreams of freedom

And of hope…

He tells me that he can’t wait in jail for a year…

Even three months would be hard…

He tries to rationalize it all.

He says that maybe God wants him to see his parents

who he has not seen since he was 13.

He is now 26.

He doesn’t know the truth of how long it will be…

You see, there are things I don’t tell him…

Like how many long years it will take

until they will even consider

the possibility of allowing him back over the border.

I would be naïve to think that he shares everything

on how life really is in prison, as well.

I know that he does not want to scare or frighten me…

He cried the first time we talked,

but now he fights to remain strong for my sake…

This is a continuing story based on good friends of author Sue Thomson, as she delves into the effects of deportation and the emotional ramifications which are usually not experienced or felt by many of us in the United States. The story is written from a wife’s perspective. Sue Thomson has set up a Go Fund Me page to help this beautiful family, as they sort out their future and care for their little girl’s medical needs. Please consider making a donation small or large.  https://www.gofundme.com/mellynas-fund-to-get-her-dad-back
